“Like A Prayer” es el cuarto álbum de estudio y el sexto álbum de la carrera musical de Madonna. Fue lanzado en Marzo de 1989 por Sire Records y producido por Stephen Bray, Patrick Leonard y Prince, con quién Madonna hace un dueto dentro del álbum en la canción “Love Song”. “Like A Prayer” recibió criticas muy buenas nombrándolo como el mejor álbum de la primera década de carrera de Madonna. Actualmente se lo sigue considerando como uno de los mejores álbumes de estudio de Madonna. Mundialmente el álbum ha vendido más de 11 millones de copias. La RIAA lo certificó 'Cuadruple Platino' el 16 de Julio de 1997, reconociendo las 4 millones de copias vendidas en Estados Unidos, convirtiéndose en su séptimo álbum mejor vendido en este país. Mundialmente el álbum ha vendido más de 22 millones de copias hasta 2008. “Like A Prayer” incorpora elementos rock, dance, pop, soul y funk en las distintas canciones que forman el álbum. La revista Rolling Stone denominó al álbum como “lo más cerca que ha estado la música pop del arte”. “Like A Prayer” es quizás el álbum más personal de Madonna incluyendo distintos temas relacionados con su vida personal. Es allí donde incluye la primera de las tantas canciones a través de su carrera en la cual Madonna habla abiertamente acerca de la muerte de su madre en su tema “Promise to Try” e incluso dedica el álbum a “my mother who taught me to pray” (a mi madre, quien me enseñó a orar). El álbum también abarca el fallido matrimonio con el actor Sean Penn en el tema “Till Death Do Us Part”. El álbum fue #1 en Estados Unidos y Reino Unido y vendió cuatro millones de copias en Estados Unidos (consiguiendo la certificación 'Platino') y 1.2 millones en el Reino Unido (certificación 'Platino'). De acuerdo con la lista publicada por la revista Time, “Like A Prayer” es uno de los “100 mejores álbumes de todos los tiempos”. En 2003, la revista Rolling Stone ubicó al álbum en el puesto #237 de los 500 “Mejores álbunes de todos los tiempos” y además de esto el disco ha sido catalogado como uno de los “1001 discos que hay que escuchar antes de morir”. En 2006, la revista Q ubicó el álbum en el puesto nº14 de la lista de los “40 mejores àlbunes de los 80's”. “Like A Prayer” esta considerado junto a “Ray of Light” de 1998 y "Confessions on a Dance Floor” de 2005, como uno de los mejores de la carrera de Madonna, recibiendo las mejores criticas a la vez que teniendo un gran exito en muchos aspectos. /

“Like A Prayer” is the fourth studio album and the sixth in her career. It was released on March 21st, 1989 by Sire Records and produced by Stephen Bray, Patrick Leonard and Prince (in this album Madonna has a duet with Prince in the song: “Love Song”), recognizing four million shipments in the U.S. and making it her seventh best-selling album there. Worldwide, it has sold more than 15 million copies. The RIAA certified “Like A Prayer” album 'Quadruple Platinum' on July 16th, 1997. Madonna's lyrics in the album reflect her then very public divorce from Sean Penn in the song “Till Death Us Do Part” as well as revisiting the emotions dealt with in her family life from when she was a child through to when she was a teenager in the songs “Promise to Try”, “Oh Father” and “Keep It Together”. The album was also ranked number 237 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the “500 greatest albums of all time”. According to a list released by Time magazine on November 13th, 2006, “Like a Prayer” is one of the “All-TIME 100 Greatest Albums”. The album is featured in the book “1001 Albums you must hear before you die”. In 2006, Q magazine placed the album at #14 in its list of “40 Best Albums of the '80s”. “Like A Prayer” is considered with “Ray of Light”, 1998, and “Confessions on a Dance Floor”, 2005, like one of her best albums in her career.
