“You Can Dance” es el primer álbum-remix recopilatorio de Madonna y quinto en su carrera, lanzado el 17 de Noviembre de 1987 por Sire Records. El álbum contiene canciones especialmente escogidas para las pistas de baile, de los álbumes “Madonna”, “Like a Virgin” y “True Blue” además de una canción inédita: “Spotlight”, que originalmente iba a ser incluido en el álbum “True Blue” pero al final sin alguna razón fue descartado del tracklisting oficial. “You Can Dance” es considerado como el primer álbum compilatorio de remixes pero no el primer álbum de grandes éxitos, este título se le daría a su posterior álbum de 1990 “The Immaculate Collection”. “You Can Dance” es el álbum de remixes más vendido por parte de una artista femenina en la historia. El álbum fue certificado por la RIAA como disco de 'Oro' y 'Platino' el 20 de Enero de 1988 con el millón de copias vendidas en Estados Unidos. También existe una edición para Estados Unidos, You Can Dance - Single Edits, en el cual las canciones son más cortas y no están en secuencia, además de que la carátula de este LP es un fondo blanco, con la imagen de Madonna al centro y su nombre en letras rojas, a diferencia de la edición internacional, que tiene la imagen de Madonna al centro, con un fondo rojo, y con el texto Madonna: You Can Dance en letras blancas. “You Can Dance” logró vender alrededor de 5 millones de copias en todo el mundo en sus años de promoción, y hoy en día exceden los 7 millones de discos vendidos a nivel mundial. /

 

“You Can Dance” is the first remix-compilation by Madonna, released November 17th 1987 by Sire Records, but not the first greatest hits album (title that was given then to “The Immaculate Collection” album in 1990). The album contains remixes of tracks from her first three studio albums: “Madonna”, “Like a Virgin” and “True Blue” and a new track: “Spotlight”, which was written for the album “True Blue” and finally not included in it. The RIAA certified it 'Gold' & 'Platinum' on January 20th, 1988, denoting one million shipments in the United States. A promotional version, You Can Dance - Single Edits of Album Remixes was issued on the same day to dance clubs in USA featuring single edits of the album cuts. This promotional version charted as You Can Dance (LP Cuts) on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart, peaking at #1 on February 6th, 1988.
