“Celebration” es el tercer álbum de grandes éxitos de Madonna luego de “The Immaculate Collection” y “GHV2” y el sexto álbum de recopilación, lanzado mundialmente el 28 de Septiembre de 2009.

“Celebration” es el último disco que Madonna graba con el sello discográfico Warner Bros. Records, que fue su sello desde 1982, ya que en 2007 Madonna firmó contrato con Live Nation, la cual se hará cargo de álbunes futuros y giras en vivo. El manager de Madonna, Guy Oseary, pidió a los admiradores que participaran de la lista de temas de “Celebration” anticipando que sería un disco de grandes éxitos y que lo hicieran por medio de Twitter. Más tarde, confirmó que Madonna había escrito 3 nuevos temas para incluir en el mismo disco junto a Paul Oakenfold, “Celebration” (lanzado como primer single), “Revolver” (junto con Lil Wayne) y “It's So Cool” (bonus track de la edición especial de iTunes).
El tema “Celebration” fue producido por Paul Oakenfold y Madonna, grabado en New York y se convirtió en el principal sencillo promocional cuando comenzó a sonar en las radios a partir del 3 de Agosto de 2009. El video para este tema fue dirigido por Jonas Akerlund, quién había dirigido el video de “Ray Of Light”.
El álbum está disponible en formato CD simple y CD doble y simultáneamente acompañado con un DVD simple y doble con los mejores videos de su carrera, llamado “Celebration - The Video Collection”, algunos de los cuales nunca habían sido editados en ese formato digital.
La imagen de la portada del álbum fue tomada en 1990 por el fotógrafo y colaborador, Jean Baptiste Mondino. La portada del álbum, que tiene un estilo pop, fue tomada por el artista callejero Mr. Brainwash.
Las ediciones de “Celebration” ya sea en un solo CD o 2 CDS, que se lanzaron en Bélgica, fueron exactamente iguales con excepción del tema “Frozen" que no está incluido debido a que Madonna ha tenido problemas por plagio en ese país.

“Celebration” is the third greatest hits album by Madonna, the sixth compilation album in her whole career, and the closing release under her contract with Warner Bros. Records, her record company since 1982 . The release follows her two previous greatest hits albms “The Immaculate Collection” and “GHV2” and is the sixth album of compilations, released on September 28th, 2009.
The album was released as a single CD, Deluxe Double CD and a DVD entitled “Celebration -The Video Collection” with the best videos of her career.
“Celebration” was appreciated by contemporary critics who noted the vastness of Madonna's back-catalogue. The album debuted at the Top of the charts of UK, Italy and Ireland. Madonna tied with Elvis Presley to have the most number-one albums as a solo artist in UK. In other places it debuted within the Top-ten. The title track was released as the first single of the album. It became Madonna's fortieth number-one song of Billboard's dance chart. Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, asked fans on his Twitter for imput regarding the tracklisting of the greatest hits album. It was later confirmed that Madonna wrote 3 new tracks for the album with Paul Oakenfold, “Celebration” (released as the first single), “Revolver” (with Lil Wayne) and “It's So Cool” (bonus track special edition on iTunes)
The photo cover was taken by Jean Baptiste Mondino in 1990 and the cover for “Celebration” was created by street pop artist Mr. Brainwash. The released of the album, 1 CD and 2 CDS, in Belgium, doesn't include “Frozen” due to a plagarism case in 2005 which forbids that it be released or broadcast in that country.
